Seattle-based Nexage launched PhoneCast, a mobile video solution for wireless carriers, content providers and media companies that allows customers to watch live TV and video on demand content on their mobile phones. PhoneCast is 3GPP and 2GPP2 and Windows Media compliant.

TV Guide Channel in conjunction with GoldPocket Wireless is giving TV viewers the opportunity to use their cell phones to weigh in on the nominees for the Golden Globe Awards. During the red carpet broadcast of "Joan and Melissa Live at the Golden Globe Awards" on Monday, Jan. 16, viewers will be prompted to vote in three categories: sexiest male nominee, sexiest female nominee and funniest man on television. Viewers may vote via text message to the short-code AWARD (29273). The results will be instantly tallied and broadcast on-air by Joan and Melissa Rivers.

Motricity will incorporate SafeNet's OMA DRM server toolkit into Motricity's mobile content delivery platform, called Fuel. Motricity says it will launch video and full-track music services this year with several of its off-net media and mobile operator partners and will rely on SafeNet's OMA-compliant DRM to protect the content from piracy.

In other DRM news, software firm Mobile Action says that it has developed a secure method for delivering MP3 music and multimedia files to cellular phone users using FoneJoy, an enabling technology that allows Internet content providers to securely deliver content for playback on PCs and cellular handsets.
